Cabinet makers made Cerused Oak (otherwise known as Limed Oak) popular as long ago as the 16th Century. It made a comeback during the Art Deco through Mid-Century eras, and even had its moment in the 80’s. (My hunch is that the 80’s are why many have a bad connotation.) Lately I have been thinking a lot more about wood-tone cabinetry -as opposed to painted cabinets- and I’ll admit the white-washed look that Cerused Oak has appeals to me.
Back when I was dream decorating the #ABCDJewelBox, I talked about doing the floors and kitchen cabinets in Cerused Oak. I am crazy for this Harvest Dining Table by Bunny Williams and her Button Down Chest, also in the finish. My friends at The New Traditionalists also do many pieces in colorfully stained Cerused Oak – I might even say they are the masters of it!
