Early last week I had Nicole from Sketch42Blog up to The Country House for a little pretty-making, photo taking and antiquing. She spends her Summers near the ocean, so from what she tells me it was a fun little getaway to see what “country living” in the Northwest Corner can be like.Nicole truly has her own distinct, creative, individual eye. I’ve really admired the photos that I see her post on her website and on instagram and I was curious to see her beautiful take on a project that I find pleasing to my eye. What better place to do that than The Country House? I have never had anyone (besides me) take photos at the house with Summertime leaves on the trees and garden in full bloom. As I am sure you know, I’ve taken a bladgillion photos of Tauren Poodle, but none quite like hers. I have also taken a million bazillion of the black window sashes in our house – and again – none of them are like hers. I have seen a few sneak peeks –she shared a few on her site too– and it should come as no surprise that I am infatuated with the Sketch 42 take. Before Nicole arrived I made flower arrangements, just as I would if any guest was coming to stay. She shot the house in a very natural way. There were no “props” brought in besides when I set the table for our lunch. She snapped photos, we chatted, and she shot some more. We ate lunch and then she shot some more. Nicole was such a good sport, it was 90+ degrees outside, we don’t have air conditioning and I swear the humidity was 110%. (It was so humid that her lens kept steaming up!) The Mr was traveling all week. He arrived home, jet-lagged just in time for dinner on the 4th of July. It was pouring cats and dogs, so it really didn’t feel like a holiday. We made up for it Saturday and Sunday though – the weather was sublime! We enjoyed a lovely luncheon at home on Saturday, a picnic dinner, and a show of fireworks at the Cream Hill lake club that night. Sunday included more of the same. And now (son-of-a-gun) it’s time to close up the house and go back to New York City. There is nothing in me that wants this week to end, so I thought I’d postpone by writing a blog post from the screened in porch…and by baking a bit more – ha!Thanks to Jessica, I’m baking Strawberry Bread this morning. The Entertaining House has been on a lifestyle and recipe roll lately. Between her checklist of essentials to have on-hand for impromptu Summer entertaining and her Salad Nicoise recipe, I’ve been clicking every link she shares lately. (Remember how much I liked her Eggnog Pound Cake Recipe? Yeah, me too. Go ahead and bookmark that one for December – we are less than six months away!) It should go without saying that as soon as I saw her recipe for “the only strawberry bread recipe you’ll ever need,” I bookmarked it. The oven is pre-heating as I type. Because after all, I need something to nosh on during the car ride to the Big Apple, right?
