We had the second Co-Op interview last Thursday night in New York City. They told us 6:30, so we arrived at 6:25 only to learn that the meeting was actually scheduled for 6:45 and a few people had called to say that they would be late. It wasn’t much of an interview at all, but we did end up learning “The building has a lot of dogs, so you see why we need to be careful who we accept into the building.” It is not lost on me that I have had a debilitating pain in my neck ever since that meeting –but I had to keep on keeping on– as you may recall, I had a Birthday Party for both of my boys to throw. The Mister’s birthday fell on Friday, and the Poodle’s first birthday was the day after. On Friday night, I made dinner at home and I had him blow out candles on a tiny chocolate chip covered chocolate cake. I had made up a card and wrapped his gift which he found under his pillow. I am not totally sure how this tradition started, but I can’t remember a birthday where his gift wasn’t hiding there at the end of the day. I suppose it is a bit like the tooth fairy idea…It poured rain all night Friday night and into Saturday morning. After much deliberation we decided to throw Tauren’s 1st Birthday Party on Saturday afternoon. It was supposed to clear up by lunch time, and Sunday’s weather didn’t look much better. I had purchased a beautiful Benjamin Downing cheese board for the party at a new store in Great Barrington called One Mercantile. We had three different cheeses, and the same variety of crackers. We also had marinated olives and cornichons. I let everyone help themselves to the food that they wanted. I had a pot of Curried Carrot Soup on the stovetop, Kale Salad in a large bowl, and I made an Egg Strata Recipe that came via email from an ABCD Design reader – thanks Jennifer, I love this recipe! And as promised, I ordered the famous coconut cake from The Peninsula Grill. All in all (with exception of the fact that I never pulled out my camera once the first guest arrived) I think it was a successful party.I posted this iPhone picture of me cutting the cake on my instagram, and I had several people comment that they liked my shirt. It’s actually a dress – a caftan to be exact. It has been my favorite late Summer purchase this year. I got it from the ‘Interior Life‘ section of the Emerson Fry website. I suppose interior life means it is actually lounge wear, but if I can put my hair in a bun and get away with wearing my pajamas *cough* I mean my butterfly caftan out in public, I will, and I have…on multiple occasions!
