Heat and humidity soared in the middle of last week which made it hard for me to believe the weather forecast for this past weekend. The sun was shining all weekend long with highs in the low 60s and the lows in the high 30s. It really made it feel like Fall around here! With this forecast for the weekend in mind, I picked up a nice selection of Fall flowers at the farmers market on Friday and arranged them in ceramic vessels when I got home. I find during the Summer months that I am drawn to arranging flowers in my glass containers, but come Fall I naturally start making different vessel selections for my arrangements. I found a vintage yellow container at a local antique store earlier in the week. It became the foundation for the first arrangement I made on Friday for our dining room. I also used the face jug my mom bought me for the library flower arrangement, and an old favorite black ceramic vase (that has a bas relief scene of two women having afternoon tea on it) for the fireplace room. The local Blueberries are puttering out in a big way in these parts, so I made what may be my last batch of blueberry muffins for the Summer. I used my basic whole wheat muffin recipe (As always, I doubled the ingredients so I would have plenty to share!) and added one pint of local blueberries. For weeks I have had requests from the Mr for my mom’s Pumpkin Bread – which I typically only make from the first sign of Fall through New Years. So with the arrival of chilly air this weekend, I made my first batch of Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread for the Fall Season. What a sight for sore eyes! (While I am getting in the mood for hearty Fall foods, here is a reminder post with some of my favorite Fall Recipe Links.)On Saturday morning I made three medium-sized loafs. I took one to a friend as a thank you for helping us out when our car battery died, and the other two I cut into big chunks while they were still warm and delivered them to the Mister’s Saturday morning bicycle ride. Don’t worry, I reserved a few pieces for home too. We enjoyed them with our Sunday morning coffee!
