Well, I did it. I made Jello Shots for my house guests over the 4th of July holiday. I mentioned to you that I was interested in making the tequila and vodka jelly shots. In the end, I knew my audience of five adults from Tennessee would be far more interested in some sort of bourbon and ginger beer flavor combination. While I didn’t follow any of the recipes from the Jelly Shot Test Kitchen, I was inspired by the proportions in root beer barrel shot recipe.ABCD’s Bourbon and Ginger Beer Jello Shot Recipe
Method: Pour the Ginger Beer into a sauce pan. Bring to a boil and add two packets of gelatine. Stir continuously until the gelatine has dissolved into the ginger beer. Turn off the heat and add the bourbon. Pour the mixture into your jello mold and let it set in the refrigerator. (The ladies at the Jelly Shot Test Kitchen suggest spraying your silicone mini muffin molds with cooking spray and then wiping them down before putting the jello mixture into them. I have to agree – even though I didn’t have cooking spray at home and didn’t try this method. Without the oil, I had a difficult time un-molding my cooking spray free shots as perfectly as I would have liked to.)
Before Serving: garnish each bourbon-ginger beer jello shot with a slice of shaved organic candied ginger.
It was a 58 degree, rainy afternoon the day I made these. In all honesty, these cool and jiggly bourbon shots warmed one’s belly so much so that I actually think they’d be better served in the dead of Winter! New Years Eve perhaps? Enjoy!
