Someone we know scheduled a 6am flight to Chicago last Tuesday. Someone we know also went out for an amazing, wine-centric dinner with Michele Varian the night before the flight. That someone arrived home at 11:30, packed, and fell asleep with her cell phone on her chest in hopes that she’d actually awake at 3am when the alarm went off. Ouch. I have talked on ABCD Design before about how talented Suzanne Cummings is – so click here to catch up if you missed it before. What I didn’t have the pleasure of telling you in that post (because I hadn’t met her in real life) is that she is every bit as lovely in person as the person I ‘met’ on Twitter.Suzanne is an art collector – each piece has a story – many of which are by different artists, yet together they all tell her story. In my personal experience, people who are collectors often have a very defined sense of what it is that they love to look at. That is especially helpful when it comes to making a good design. There are no wishy-washy moments in the design process. No deciding what looks best, or changing your mind at the last moment. It just is, and it’s a beautiful expression of one’s individual style.Suzanne has a honed, ultra definitive sense of style that is apparent in everything she touches. From the clothes that she wears to beautiful atelier space that she designed, to the flower arrangements she makes and how she packages them, Suzanne Cummings has done an amazing job with staying true her aesthetic. I have a feeling that she could teach everyone a lesson or two about personal branding – as long as they are willing to trust their personal taste!I arrived home late on Friday night and headed to the flower market first thing Saturday morning. I have been practicing my hand-tied flower arranging all week. I’ve already delivered a few bouquets and received wonderful reviews! This is such a great floral design method to have taken the time to study – it’s definitely a look and one more skill I have placed in my flower arranging tool belt.
