On Tuesday, we arrived at The Country House closing and had the wonderful opportunity to meet the couple who owned the house before us. As you may recall, a few weeks ago I met the lovely Lady of the House at the home inspection. Remember how I wanted her to be my Connecticut BFF? Well, now I love her even more! Our Lady of the House arrived at the closing with a house-warming gift in tow. I seriously wanted to reach out and hug her. But I just knew I’d cry – I was on the verge of tears the entire time we sat there signing papers. So, I restrained myself because …well… somehow it didn’t seem right to start getting all sappy in an attorney’s office with our super-serious husbands staring on at us. Whatever the case, our Lady of the House is a true gem. The house has the most wonderful energy about it – I feel so blessed to be the one inheriting it! I will always have warm feelings in my heart for her.The gift was a wicker basket (that fits perfectly on our pantry shelves!) full of freshly picked strawberries, a bottle of champagne, two champagne flutes and the book called Architecture of the Shakers. Turns out that our little Shaker house design is inspired by a Shaker laundry house. There is a photo in the book that looks *exactly* like our new home! What a wonderfully thoughtful idea! Bringing a house-warming gift to the new owners at the closing. This Lady of the House has taught me a thing or two that I will aspire to emulate should we ever choose to sell this wonderful home – which, at this point I can not ever imagine!
