Oh my gosh ~ I really don’t know where to start. Nearly a month ago we traveled to San Francisco to attend a wedding. When we got off the plane and had arrived in SF, I had missed two phone calls from my mom. My dad had been hospitalized. He has an ongoing issue, but this is the first time he’d been sent to the hospital for it. So it was very scary for us. I attended the wedding, but changed my flight to stop in Michigan to see my dad well. I was due in Chicago at the end of the following week, so I decided to go directly from Detroit to Chicago in one foul swoop. On my way to catch my flight to Detroit, I stopped at a cash station for cab fare. I proceeded to leave my bank card in the ATM… It was while I was tending to my family issues that I learned ABCD Design had been hacked by malware/spam. I couldn’t sign into the wordpress site. I called Go Daddy (my url host) for some direction. I don’t know about you, but I feel like their website is incredibly hard to navigate.I had four separate phone conversations on Tuesday morning. I spent what was supposed to be family time in ludicrous phone conversations with condescending Go Daddy operators. Out of frustration, I turned to Twitter and on a moments notice (after I complained in a public forum) Go Daddy was hot and heavy to help me. To a certain point. Go Daddy sent me an email that said something like “We’ve removed the malware from your site, but now you have to follow this link and update to the most current version of wordpress in order not to be vulnerable to malware. Keep in mind, until you do this, your site could be hacked again.” I followed the link, and it was like trying to read Chinese characters. I was at a loss. Several phone calls and mishaps later, every time I tried to get it handled, it just didn’t work out. I spent way too much time getting nowhere. The idea of calling Go Daddy again was giving me panic attacks. Seriously, my throat is getting tight just thinking about what I had to go through to get the site working again. Keep in mind, as I write this post, I keep getting error messages as I save it. I try to preview it and the photos are missing. I go back to edit and I have been signed out of wordpress all together. I get a message that says “The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems.” What to do? Is it actually working, or is it just a patch of sorts? Long story short, a lot has happened in the last month! I decided to return to NYC early in lew of going to Chicago. I needed to get back to New York after an unplanned week away. We were lucky enough to inherit an SUV from my sweet sister – so I drove it back to the Big Apple by myself! After 10+ years of not being a regular driver, I managed to get a speeding ticket! Boo. Upon my return, Banksy had tagged NYC and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to see his work in person. The ICFF and the National Stationery Shows were going going on = my favorite time of year! My schedule was packed with tweet-ups and meetings. It was all very fun. I have also been up to my eyeballs getting everything sorted out with the new country house. The Radon, Well, Septic and Home Inspections are done. We’ve signed the contracts, the sellers have counter-signed. I have been doing research on kitchen cabinets, flooring for the first floor of the house, reading reviews on grills and picnic tables. We’re scheduled to close on June 15th. It’s all very exciting!
Banksy photos are courtesy of @jcapdesign – who I was lucky enough to bump into while gazing at the Banksy near Wall Street. He offered to take a pic and tweet it at me ~ lucky ABCD! The other images are from a flickr search.
