Remember when Emily won a monogram by ABCD Design on Style Me Pretty?
These are the options I have come up with for Emily and Christopher’s logo. Read their engagement story at the bottom of this post. You’ll see why I was inspired by the era of Houdini, magic, Vaudeville and vintage poster fonts!
I love entwining the initials of the couple. It is the ultimate example of the big step they are about to take in marriage. I opted to use their first initials as this way it is appropriate to use the monogram both before AND after the wedding regardless of whether she takes his last name or not.
Emily tells the story best, so in her own words…
How He Proposed:
The story of our engagement starts on Valentines day two years ago, 4 months after I had moved to Texas. Valentines day happened to fall on a Wednesday, the same day a local Irish Pub had a magician come every week to do table magic. We went to see the magician and he came over to our table to do a few card tricks, one of them ending with him fusing together two cards that had our names on them.
Fast forward to a Wednesday last August when Chris picks me up at a bookstore near our home and suggests we go to this Irish Pub for dinner. “Maybe the magician will be there,” I say. I didn’t know at the time that the magician had not preformed weekly at the Pub for a year. The magician was there when we arrived and came right over to are table to do some magic.
At the end of his show he said he was going to show us a new trick he had been working on that no one else had seen yet. He had me pick a card out of the deck (it just happened to be the ace of hearts). Chris wrote his name at the top and I wrote my name on the bottom so the card now read Chris <3’s Emily. He put the card back in the deck and made it reappear face up on our table. He then gave me a marker and told me to wave it over the card to see Chris’s innermost thoughts. When I flipped the card over it said “Will you Marry me?” I looked over and Chris was down on one knee. I was so shocked I said, “are you serious” three times before I said yes. Chris tracked down the magician from our fist Valentines Day and had him make up a trick especially for us. It was fantastic.
For our save the dates I found an image of an old poster advertising a Houdini magic show. I’m going to try to recreate it in our wedding stationery.
P.S. Did I ever tell you all that we had a magician at our wedding? I hired him as sort of a surprise to Mr. D!
He was entertainment to our guests during cocktail hour, and then between courses at the reception he worked the room by stopping at each table. JB Benn is so amazing!
He does weddings and events all over the world. I would totally recommend him – out of all the elements at our wedding I think he was the biggest hit with our guests!
