When I was in college my favorite movement in art history was the surrealist movement. I quite enjoyed the idea of the exquisite corpse. Magritte was one of my favorites!
Today, I am going to play a bit of the exquisite corpse game with my name.
Because to be quite honest, everywhere I look my name just isn’t quite right.
I believe it is important to live a well lived life.
My goal is to make everything even lovelier.
Whatever it is that I am working on – Drawings, Collages, Flower Arrangements, Interiors, Window Displays, Collections, Dinner, Cookies, Knitting Sweaters, Stationery, to Holiday Decor, you name it. P-R-E-T-T-Y.
I have a certain esthetic.
Full, never messy.
Modern, but not cold.
Vibrant with a nod of nostalgia.
My story goes like this … I had designed my business card in 2004, and knew I had it in me to design our wedding stationery. *the silhouette “Cupp” girl has been with me as long as I can remember … since my days at SAIC … I LOVE HER!*
Sooooooooooooooooooooo we got engaged.
The accolades came rolling in. Before our wedding, I had all sorts of baby announcement and wedding stationery requests. A friend wrote me an e-mail and said “When are you sending more? I want another “Paper Cupp creation!” That was my A-HA! Brilliant idea moment. Papercupp. Love it.
I was going to be newly married, working with brides … I came up with a name that gives homage to my maiden name “Cupp,” SWEET. Quirky, fun designs on paper, SMART. Papercupp as in a paper “dixie cup” with an e-mail address of thirsty@papercupp. Thirsty for more information – LOVE IT! BRILLIANT!!!
At wedding time, Mr. D’s bosses asked that we start spending 3-4 months “visiting” London each year. So every other month we pack up and work from Mayfair for two weeks or so.
Good thing I had started my tres portable stationery business, no?
After the wedding I was so excited to have my new initial. My entire life I went by “ABC” as a nickname. How lucky that I met and married “Mr. D!”
That first post brought e-mail inquiries from all over the globe – not just our wedding guests!
Other brides, just like me.
Who wanted me to help tell their story through their invitation suite.
The ABCD Design Blog was about my new life as a newlywed. It included homemaking, travel and interior design ideas.
The blog was getting a lot of notice and I wanted to marry *ABCD Design* with the business *Papercupp* under one cohesive name for easy-breezy brand recognition.
In the Fall of 2007, I started calling myself ABCD Designs Papercupp. ABCD *Amy Beth Cupp Dragoo* Designs *the act of designing-!-* Papercupp *Papercupp being the actual stationery that I design for brides, new mothers, event planners and people who share a similar esthetic.*
My little business was booming. YAY!
Except for one thing. We all know that the blog world is the wild wild west. People can decide to start a blog and write with absolute authority about anything they want. Many times they do not fact check.
I have found my business name and blog listed on various blog rolls and features as ABCD Papercupp, ABC (no D) Design, ABC Paper Cup, Paper Cupp every other variation possible. Oh, drats!
I have also come to learn that there is another stationery design company with a similar name to Papercupp. Every time someone shortens my company name or it is mispelled, their website shows in a google search! My work grabbing attention for them? Boo-hoo!
After much consideration I have decided to make my own personal name speak for itself …
I will take a step way from confusion and move into complete clarity.
I am officially dropping “papercupp” and changing my company name to ABCD Designs Bespoke Stationery, inc.
“Amy Beth Cupp Dragoo” “designs” “bespoke” “stationery.”
ABCD Designs are different from the rest because they are made from scratch. Designed just for you to suit your style and reflect your personality.
Each couple has it’s own story to be told. Why would you choose anything other than BESPOKE Stationery?
I am delighted to announce my “change of a dress!” The gorgeous new website is located at www.bespokestationery.com. Kindly update your bookmarks!
P.S. Stay tuned to the daily ABCD Design Blog as the holiday season wraps up. Come the New Year, we’ll have a FAB new look and our own url at www.abcddesign.com. YAY!
